Opthalamology

Welcome to the Department of Ophthalmology, University of Ulsan College of Medicine, Asan Medical Center (AMC).
As one of the major clinical departments at AMC, the Ophthalmology Department has made a continual effort to achieve the high standards it has set itself. However, patient trust and loyalty, which have continued for more than 20 years, have been the major factor that has made us what we are today.
In order to meet patient expectations, we reconsolidated our department to meet the AMC's 2008 mission of "Global Standard Realization."
In addition to the ten departmental faculty members, we added one more professor in March 2009. These faculty members are proficient in the latest techniques and obtained their training in the United States. As a result, we have sub-specialty expertise that covers all aspects of eye care, such as anterior segment, posterior segment, glaucoma, pediatric ophthalmology, neurophthalmology, oculoplasty, as well as numerous other areas. We also continually train our nursing team and technicians in order to meet international standards.
In May 2008, our ophthalmology clinic was relocated to a new building that was more spacious and patient-friendly. By moving into the new building, we were able to open a special diagnosis clinic equipped with high-tech diagnostic equipment. With this relocation, patients will be able to enjoy upgraded medical services through a new reservation system and other processes which are efficiently operated. The surgery suite and inpatient room will also provide care that meets international standards with cutting-edge equipment such as a sutureless virectomy instrument and an IntraLase femtosecond laser.
We care for all patients according to our mission of tending to each patient in a holistic manner. In keeping with this mission, we have links with the Diabetes Center, the Organ Transplantation Center, and the Genetic Medical Center, all of which contribute to substantially improving patient care.
In addition to patient diagnosis, we are dedicated to achieving better medical care by engaging in research with the goal of being at the forefront of future ophthalmology care and knowledge. In support of the Asan Institute for Life Sciences, we have published and presented many articles about basic science and clinical research. Since 2006, when we were designated a "multinational global clinical trial center" in ophthalmology, a first in Korea, our department has become recognized around the world.
We will continue to maintain our efforts to reach our goal, which is to "Contribute to the healthy life of each human being through the highest quality medical treatment, education, and research in basic and medical sciences." and promise to endeavor to provide the best care possible for each patient.
Our staffs are dedicated to your well-being and will do all that is necessary to make your visit successful and pleasant. Thank you for visiting us!
