Ewha Womans University Medical Center is devoted to research, education and treatment. It was founded in 1887 and since being merged with Ewha Womans University Dongdaemun Hospital in 2008, the Hospital has strived to grow into a general hospital equipped with global competitiveness.
Awards and Achievements: EWMC had been selected as the first rank Hospital for Good Quality and Service selected by female consumers for 3 consecutive years, from 2009 to 2011 and has been authorized as one of the Korean representative hospitals by winning Grand Prize in Korean Global Medical Service Award in 2011, it also received Grand Prize in the Best Brand Award selected by women for 5 consecutive years, 2009 to 2013. Ewha Womans University Medical Center received ‘Best Brand 2015’ award chosen by consumers for 2 consecutive years in 2015.
Medical Staffs: The achievements are attributed to its scientific and modern medical services aided by state-of-the-art medical devices, customer-centric treatment system and excellent medical staff. Professional medical staff provides specialized services, as women’s cancer and men’s cancer are completely different.
Centers and Departments: Breast cancer, thyroid cancer, uterine cancer and ovarian cancer. Cranial Nerve Center, the Cardiovascular Center, the Blood & Marrow Progenitor Cell Transplantation Center, the Bariatric Surgery Center, the Gastrointestinal Disease Center, the Cranial Nerve Center, Specialized centers: Stomach-Colon Cancer Cooperative Treatment Center, Liver/Pancreas and Biliary Tract Center, Cardiovascular Center, Artificial Joint Center, Robot Surgery Center, Shoulder Disease Center, Stroke Center, Stem Cell Transplantation Center.
Services: In addition, EWMC introduced 128 channel PET-CT able to discriminate only 2 mm of small cancer lesion with minimum radiation amount at the first time in Korea and has improved accuracy of diagnosis and treatment by advanced diagnostic devices and therapies including operation of 'Trilogy', a medical equipment which can provide patient customized radiation therapy.
Other Activities and Contributions: Ewha overseas medical services team go to places in under developed countries with low level of medical benefits such as refugee villages and Nepal, Vietnam, Cambodia and Uzbekistan twice a year since 1989. They have since treated about 1,000 or more people every year with this project and at times invite patients who need operations into Korea and provide them necessary treatment free of charge.
Infrastructure: For early diagnosis of geriatric diseases, breast cancer, thyroid cancer, cervical cancer, endometrial cancer and ovarian cancer, the Center has developed and operated the special medical check-up program for women, in cooperation with the Breast and Thyroid Cancer Center, the Gynecologic Cancer Center and the Cancer Research Institute for Women of Ewha Womans University Cancer Center for Women that shares the same building with the Center.
